SEACOM Online Backup is a disk-to-disk backup and recovery solution for enterprises in South Africa. This data recovery service is delivered using Redstor technology, making it a globally recognised and trusted solution for large companies.

End devices can be configured to automatically backup files as soon as an internet connection is detected. In addition, the centralised administration console allows for remote backup and restoration of the data on these devices.

The impact of lost data on companies

Data loss is a major inconvenience and a costly event for any company. It not only disrupts operations and leads to massive financial repercussions but the more severe the data loss incident, the more intense the impact on the business. Over 90% of companies that lose their data for 10 days or more will have to file for bankruptcy within one year.

This is a stark statistic and highlights the non-negotiable need for backup and recovery solutions. What’s more, 50% of companies that do not have data management solutions in place will file for bankruptcy immediately after a data loss event.

The statistics gathered by the University of Texas paint a similar picture; 94% of companies that experience catastrophic data loss do not survive in the medium-to-long term. Of these, 43% close immediately and never reopen and the other 54% close down within two years of the event.

Data can be lost through theft or a natural disaster. One-third of companies that have a major fire and lose their data will go out of business within one year and 70% fail within five years. According to Gartner, 25% of all employees suffer from some degree of data loss every year.

Whether it’s hackers, ransomware, hardware failure, file corruption, user error or natural disasters, data loss can happen at any time. It’s a risk that every company carries. SEACOM’s Online Backup services ensure that clients are protected against data loss in various forms.

Online Backup for enterprises in Africa

Our services help enterprises achieve their disaster recovery objectives with InstantData. This ensures files are prioritised dynamically, according to access requests during the restoration process. Cloud workload mobility and full system recovery are also achieved through our cloud integration and infrastructure capabilities.

SEACOM has partnered with Redstor to pioneer the technology behind Online Backup, offering borderless visibility and on-demand access to data through a single control centre, wherever it is stored. Redstor offers a strong value proposition and local presence in South Africa, making them an ideal partner.

The company has had over 100 million successful data restorations and operates on an effective commercial model offering affordable solutions to South African companies. In addition, these solutions tie in with our stable of ICT services and existing products. Online Backup can be coupled with our Virtual Server Hosting service to enable full system recovery of all remote devices.

This enables disaster recovery in extreme cases, where hosts have been lost due to cyber security incidents or corrupted data. Clients can also scale hosts horizontally, meaning that they can spin up copies of the host to handle increased workloads at peak times. This minimises deployment times and allows an enterprise to grow on demand. Here are some more highlights of this service:

  • Online Backup reduces bandwidth consumption with incremental backups and data deduplication.
  • Item-level recovery and file stream allow companies to achieve their disaster recovery time objectives.
  • A single management pane allows clients to manage their data and meet regulatory requirements with local data centres.
  • The Search and Insight service allows companies to gain immediate insight into their current data landscape.

Peripheral services attached to Online Backup

SEACOM can assist enterprises with assessing their data landscape and identifying data management needs through a unique scoping process. We also offer support services to clients, allowing them to leverage our call centre for immediate assistance. This means that you no longer have to contact technology vendors directly, but can contact SEACOM as your one-stop shop for ICT support.

Online Backup is sold on a per GB basis, which means you only have to pay for the data you own and store in your environment. For example, if you have 20 devices with an average of 50GB of data stored on each, plus a server with 250GB of data stored, then you will only pay for 1250 GB.

We offer Online Backup at a fixed rate per GB per month, up to 10TB of data selected. If your enterprise holds more than 10TB, we offer lower rates per GB. No additional service charges are incurred as part of our Online Backup solutions, other than monthly rates calculated on the data selected.

These services include implementation, operational support and access to the software and storage platform. This makes Online Backup easy to price and to anticipate the costs for control.
